Responsibility

VION has a reliable system to ensure food safety and that consumers can trust. The system is based on internationally recognised standards that centre around full traceability of products in every link of the production chain, from live animals to consumer packaging.
Food safety is more than simply working hygienically and according to legislation. Knowing where food comes from and where it is going to is also important in order to safeguard the safety of products.

VION is the director

VION sees itself as the director and guardian of the chain. Our chain partners are independent entrepreneurs who have their own responsibilities for their contribution to the chain. Working together closely not only enables us to deliver the meat that our customers and consumers ask for, but it is also the only way of achieving sustainable animal farming, cost control, efficiency, and good returns for the entire chain.

Sustainability

VION Food Group has included sustainability as one of the essential pillars of its strategy. This manifests itself in all sorts of programmes and projects. VION invests in the search for methods to control, reduce and/or replace negative processes and effects.

VION is working on sustainable market concepts

VION is working on a truly sustainable translation of supra-statutory animal welfare and sustainability requirements into consumer-oriented market concepts. We develop these market concepts together with our customers, while also being open to cooperation with community organisations. An example of this is the Good Farming Star concept. VION is introducing this concept into the market in cooperation with the retailer Albert Heijn, the Dutch Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and pig farmers.

Energy and water

Water is an important resource for the various production processes within VION. As a rule, the quality of the purified water from our purification plants is similar to that of the surface water. We are currently developing a best practices model for energy and water for all VION Food companies to enable energy and water consumption to be registered and reduced at the level of individual business sites.
